Reducing heat when using an iPhone as a dashcam

Understand the combined workload
A dashcam session can run the camera, AI, video recording, location, map rendering and a bright screen together. Charging and direct sunlight can add heat at the same time. A higher scan limit is only a ceiling, not a performance target the device must maintain. Thermal adaptation may reduce work to keep the phone within its operating limits.
Match the model to the task
For straightforward object boxes, start with the nawnaw detector. Use Pro segmentation when you actually want masks and the road-surface output. Extra output requires additional processing. Compare models with the same phone placement and lighting while parked; changing the scene and model together makes a performance comparison hard to interpret.
Use power and display controls
Review AYNIcam’s Power Saver settings and choose a readable screen brightness. Maximum brightness is not always necessary, especially at night. Prefer one view you can read comfortably and avoid repeated model switching during a session. Recording settings also matter: longer, higher-resolution clips with audio can involve more work than shorter video-only clips.
Improve the physical setup
Keep the phone out of direct sun where a safe, legal mount position allows it. Route the cable so it does not obstruct controls, and consider whether simultaneous charging is necessary for a short parked check. If the iPhone displays a temperature warning, follow its instructions and let it cool before continuing. Do not use ice or a freezer.
Compare over a sustained session
Judge responsiveness after the phone has warmed up, not only in the first seconds. While parked, note the selected model, view, charging state and conditions, then change one setting at a time. No website benchmark can guarantee the same result on every iPhone. If the app or camera pauses, check interruptions and temperature before attributing everything to the AI model.
