AyniCam
Can an iPhone dashcam record the front and rear of a car?
Distinguish front-road, cabin and rear-road cameras. Learn what one mounted iPhone can see and why AyniCam’s AI views do not add rear or 360-degree coverage.

AyniCam provides one forward-facing road view
AyniCam’s documented camera setup looks at the road ahead through one mounted iPhone. It does not provide a separate view of the road behind your car or simultaneous front-and-rear recording. Parking View and Virtual View display information derived from that same forward-facing scene.
The phrase “front and rear camera” is particularly confusing here. It can describe the selfie and rear cameras on the phone, or cameras looking ahead of and behind the vehicle. Those are different camera positions. Ask which part of the scene actually appears in a saved file.
Name the coverage, not just the lens
| Coverage | Where the camera looks | What one phone near the windscreen may miss |
|---|---|---|
| Front-road view | Through the windscreen towards the road ahead. | The road behind the car and areas outside the lens’s field of view. |
| Cabin view | Towards the driver and passenger space. | An unobstructed rear-road view; seats and people may block it. |
| Rear-road view | Out through the rear of the vehicle. | Requires a suitable physical sightline, often a separately positioned camera. |
| 360-degree coverage | Around multiple sides of the vehicle. | A graphic or several app panels do not create these camera angles. |
Several lenses on an iPhone are not several installed dashcams
An iPhone’s available cameras and an app’s supported capture modes are separate questions. Even if another app supports simultaneous phone cameras on your device, that does not establish the same feature in AyniCam. Nor does a phone’s selfie camera necessarily obtain a clear view of the road through the rear window.
Check the app’s exact device requirements, whether both streams are captured at the same time, and how they are exported. A button that switches cameras is different from saving two synchronized streams. Do not buy a plan based solely on the number of lenses on the phone.
Why AyniCam’s AI views do not replace rear cameras
Virtual View arranges estimated detections into a simpler scene. Parking View uses the same forward-facing camera with proximity estimates. These views may help explain what that camera sees; they cannot reliably reveal an object hidden behind the car or outside the image.
Likewise, roads and buildings on a map are map data, not proof of camera coverage around the vehicle. A 3D-looking display should never be treated as a live surround-view camera or as permission to manoeuvre without checking your surroundings.
Match the equipment to the missing direction
If footage of traffic behind you is essential, compare a system with a camera positioned to record that view. Check the exact package: an optional rear camera may require a separate purchase, cable or compatible main unit. Verify the saved rear image rather than assuming the product name includes it.
If you need cabin footage, evaluate that as a separate requirement. The road ahead, passenger space and rear road have different sightlines and lighting. Consider the privacy of people being recorded and check applicable requirements; this article does not provide a jurisdiction-specific legal conclusion.
A parked coverage check before relying on a system
- List the views you need: front road, cabin, rear road or another specific angle.
- Identify the physical camera responsible for each view. Mark the areas obscured by pillars, seats, people or the vehicle itself.
- Read whether the selected device and app record each view simultaneously or only switch between them.
- Where stationary recording is supported, save a harmless sample and open the exported files. Confirm which views actually exist and how their timing relates.
- For AyniCam, check the forward scene and the selected plan’s clip limits. Pro permits saving while stationary with an active camera; Free requires driving context.
- Keep direct observation and mirrors as part of your driving routine. A saved sample cannot establish complete coverage in every road situation.
Does AyniCam Pro add a second camera?
No second road-camera feed is established in the reviewed Pro feature record. Pro changes supported models, views and incident-saving limits; it should not be interpreted as a hardware expansion. Its up-to-30-second 1080p incident clip still depends on the active camera and available buffer. Consult the current plan details for the precise differences.
